Business associations engage in STEM initiatives

Business leaders are relying on excellent STEM education to develop the next generation of collaborative problem-solvers.

Businesses across the U.S. are experiencing the impact of the “STEM skills gap” which is seeing a lack of qualified graduates in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The STEM gap is particularly prevalent in regional U.S. areas with employers experiencing difficulty finding candidates with the requisite technical and technology-related skills.


In collaboration with the government, business associations are seeking to address the skills gap through introducing STEM programs to encourage and inspire middle and high school students to engage in STEM endeavors. Among the hundreds of business initiatives currently underway is the Chevron Center for STEM Education and Career Development, which was launched in 2011 by the Carnegie Science Center.

The Chevron Center endeavors to address the STEM gap through offering student and educator programs which aim to increase the quality of STEM education for all.
