March Mathletics Master Class

We are excited to announce our  March  Mathletics Master Class recipient – Sharon Schmidt (ClassrooDouglas parkm teacher) and Pat Delaney (LRT) at Douglas Park School

School: Douglas Park School

Teacher: Sharon Schmidt (Classroom teacher) and Pat Delaney (LRT)

We were happy to learn how Sharon Schmidt and Pat Delaney has implemented Mathletics into their classrooms. They have seen significant improvements in students’ math results as well as their attitude towards math.

“We have been using the Mathletics program at Douglas Park School for the past two years. Our parent council has generously provided the funding for students from grades 3 to grade 8. It is a wonderful program that can be used on a regular basis to reinforce the student’s math skills in all curriculum areas.”

Ms. Schmidt and Ms. Delaney use the Mathletics certificates to recognize their students progress and celebrate achievements.

“Certificates are printed off each week to any student who reaches 1000 points, and if anyone exceeds 10,000 points a special certificate of recognition is awarded to the student by the principal. Our school provides gold medals at assemblies for any student who reaches the gold medal status. These are purchased from a trophy shop and have a ribbon attached with the school colours.”

Not only do their student use Mathletics in the classroom they also use it at home!

“We have seen a significant improvement in students who use it at home to increase their weekly scores for school. They will use the program during the holidays, especially summer and Christmas breaks, to increase their scores and earn more certificates. It is a very motivating program.
Mathletics is a good program when used with EAL, English as an Additional Language, students. These students find it easier to work in Mathletics because it is less language-based than other resources. As well for those students who do not have access to computers at home we provide them with the e-books for extra practice. These books are a great resource for teachers as well.”

Douglas Park students are reaching the top spot in Canada on the Mathletics Hall of Fall.

“We have had a few students reach the top spots in Canada for a few weeks and one classroom reached top status for a few weeks. This information is sent home to parents in our school newsletters. Students are most excited when they see their name or class name in the top placements.”

“In general Mathletics is a phenomenal program. We are impressed with it here at Douglas Park. I encourage teachers to use it with their class and do on a regular basis it certainly improves/reinforces math abilities.”

Thank you to Ms. Schmidt and Ms. Delaney

Keep up the great work Douglas Park!
