Reading Eggs has always been a fantastically effective tool for students to learn how to read… with added comprehension and spelling resources on the side! And now, to make those sides a part of the main course, Reading Eggs has today added those essential skills into the core of the program. Students will see suggestions for comprehension, spelling and reading activities based on their progress and ability.

It’s also the perfect bridge to helps move students into the middle and higher primary resource – Reading Eggspress. It’s something many teachers have requested, and we’re really excited about providing you with an improved teaching and learning resource based on your great suggestions.

The Program Board (the interface for My Program) will add the following to the core reading lessons:

Reading lessons are the core of the Reading Eggs resource. Each lesson builds on the previous one to build skills in the five key areas needed to become a good reader: phonemic awareness and phonics, sight words, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension.

Students now also receive instant recommendation of READING LESSONS (after completing reading lesson 10).

Storylands builds reading, vocabulary and comprehension skills. It’s perfect for children who have begun to read but aren’t quite ready for Reading Eggspress.

Once all 120 READING LESSONS are complete, the next STORYLANDS LESSON is automatically recommended.

The Skills Bank Spelling lessons are the core of the ABC Reading Eggs learn-to-spell program. The Spelling Vault contains 96 carefully graded spelling lessons for the first three years of school, focusing on a 12-word spelling list with 32 lessons per year level.

Automatic recommendation of SPELLING LESSONS are now offered after the child has completed reading lesson 40.

This section of the site assesses reading skills with tests that assess high-frequency sight word knowledge, phonic skills (letters and sounds) and content area vocabulary.

Recommendation of DRIVING TESTS starts after the child has completed reading lesson 40.

BOOKS to read

Reading Eggs includes a massive library of thousands of big books for students to read online and teachers to use for group work.

The new suggested books to read is determined by a list based on the students reading lesson level and includes a display showing the number of books read and a list of books read.

And now, exclusive to students using Reading Eggs via the Program Board, are new Award Videos!

Each time a book is completed a congratulatory video from Reggie is played & a minimum of 20 golden eggs are awarded.

When a reading milestones are reached (5, 10, 25 or 50 books read) a special video to celebrate this milestone is played & 50 golden eggs are awarded.

Way to motivate those readers, Reggie!
