Values Education Real

Here at Spellodrome, we love literacy and the ability to create an engaging, interactive, safe and enjoyable learning environment for your children and students.

As important as traditional literacy is in the educational spectrum, everyone whole heartedly agrees that the best results come when learning takes shape in a holistic manner, for maximum benefit and balance to our children.  The Australian Curriculum now includes visual literacy, given the indisputable and obvious importance of this skill in everyday life.  Our children are exposed to confronting imagery on a daily basis.  It’s more important than ever that they possess the skills necessary to scrutinise, understand and translate these messages and information appropriately.

Empathy is one of the most powerful emotional lessons we can teach our children.  The ability to relate to others on an emotional level and to understand the reasoning, has tremendous benefits in every aspect of our children’s lives: who they ultimately become and how they engage in the wider community.

Through the use of these visuals, children are challenged to think outside of their usual physical and material comforts.  This helps them to gather perspective on their own lives through discussions around other children their age who are far less fortunate than themselves.  These discussions explore and develop empathy.

Humans aren’t as good as we should be in our capacity to empathize with feelings and thoughts of others, be they humans or other animals on Earth. So maybe part of our formal education should be training in empathy. Imagine how different the world would be if, in fact, that were ‘reading, writing, arithmetic, empathy.’

~ Neil deGrasse Tyson

We are proud to partner with UNICEF and Tour de Cure with these visual literacy resources.  UNICEF and Tour de Cure are both non-profit organisations who have developed into who they are, using the basis of empathy and empowerment- the embodiment of what we’re hoping our children will also learn from these visual literacy resources.

We can all make a difference in the lives of others.  Proceeds from each visual literacy pack sold will go to both UNICEF and Tour de Cure, so that they can continue their inspiring work.
