Viz ZbarVic Zbar works extensively in education as a consultant and advisor particularly around school improvement.  We are very fortunate that Vic is bringing this experience to the Love Learning Conference this year with his workshop Becoming a high performing school/classroom.

Vic was the Assistant Director of Human Resources in the Victorian Department of Education, having earlier been principal advisor to the Chief Executive, giving him an in-depth knowledge of the work of most aspects of the then Office of Schools.  He has authored Managing the future (Macmillan, 1995) and its sequel Key Management Concepts (Macmillan 1996).

Vic’s expertise and experience has been focussed around key factors that facilitate whole-school change, improvement and sustainability.  He is able to identify and discuss the key stages that make this process successful in schooling environments.  A snapshot of these stages are:

  • ensuring the preconditions for whole school improvement
  • building baseline capacity through the use of an instructional model and coaching in triads
  • drilling down into classroom practice using theories of action for teaching
  • placing an emphasis on quality leadership based on shared values, a disposition to action and a frame of reference

Personalisation and personalised learning have been a point of focus in the last decade and with school systems now seeking to rise above the performance plateaus that a number of reform programs have hit, Vic argues that teachers often struggle to determine how ‘personalisation’ might work in practice.

Having established Zbar Consulting in 1993, Vic specialises in a range of services which include high level strategic planning, leadership development, coaching, school improvement, the provision of curriculum advice and evaluation in the education and not-for-profit sectors.  Zbar Consulting has undertaken projects across Australia, and in a range of international settings including the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, The Gambia and Sierra Leone.

More recently Vic has become involved with G9 Education.
