If your students feel a little uneasy about the upcoming NAPLAN literacy tests, Reading Eggs can be a great way to settle the nerves and familiarise students with related content. It is important to remember that the NAPLAN tests are designed to be tests of skill; so whilst content is important, demonstrating fundamental literacy and test-taking skills are critical.

How can Reading Eggs help?

The questions that appear in the Comprehension Lessons have been designed to help students improve their test-taking skills, using question types similar to those found in the NAPLAN Reading and Comprehension tests. Here, students undertake pre-reading activities that model and teach comprehension strategies, with a reading extract followed by a set of comprehension questions that assess a student’s factual, inferential and textual understandings of the text.

These activities help students to develop fundamental NAPLAN comprehension skills such as making connections, identifying the main ideas of a text, recognising the purpose text titles, analysing characters, and drawing inferences and conclusions – improving their ability to understand and interpret texts.

Stadium_2The Stadium covers comprehension, word usage, vocabulary, spelling and grammar skills, covering a number of fundamental skills required for the NAPLAN Reading and Language Conventions tests. A key component of this test is demonstrating student knowledge and use of language conventions in different texts. Using the Stadium and the Library, students can gain exposure to a range of texts as well as develop practical skills through real-time skill tests.
