The award-winning mathematics resource, Mathletics, has released a world-class technology solution compliant to all provincial regulations including the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (British Columbia) (“FIPPA”), the Personal Information International Disclosure Protection Act (Nova Scotia) (“PIIDPA”) and The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Ontario (“MFIPPA”).

Following in our own innovative footsteps, our technical development team has created a solution to ensure no personally identifiable information is being stored outside of Canada. Working closely with one of Canada’s leading privacy experts, David T.S. Fraser of McInnes Cooper (Halifax, Nova Scotia), we have created and released this solution. The combination of the technology solution, and the Canadian-based server, meets the intent and spirit of the legislations. This builds upon our already high standards of privacy and data security.

David T.S. Fraser’s expertise was critical to the work undertaken by our engineering team, as he was able to look through several potential solutions to ensure compliance. Through this collaborative process, we were able to design and release a leading, scalable and compliant solution.

As one of the world’s largest online learning providers, we manage a huge amount of data from our global community of teachers and students. We do take the privacy of our users very seriously, so we wanted to come up with a solution that would not just meet the legislation that is spreading through Canadian provinces, but to go over and beyond that, whilst also allowing the Canadian users to access the full experience of the 3P platform, including being able to take part in events such as the World Education Games.

Our Mathletics team in Canada is headquartered out of Calgary, Alberta, lead by Rene Burke. Through her outstanding collaboration with Dr Marion Small, and more recently the Desmos team, we are also making significant inroads into creating great resources for critical thinking in math.
