Dame Janet Primary Academy hosted a one-day maths challenge for local students in Kent. Pupils fought off fierce competition to become Mathletics champions.

Winners from St Ethelbert’s Primary and Dame Janet Primary Academy.

The Dame Janet Primary Mathletics competition was held to promote maths across Kent and celebrate the subject.  Young mathematicians were tested on their mental arithmetic and problem solving skills in a tough 30 minute challenge.

A mixture of Year 6 and Year 7 pupils attended from Dame Janet Primary Academy, Drapers Mill Primary, Haddon Dene Prep, Newington Community School, St Ethelbert’s Catholic Primary, St Nicholas-at-Wade C of E Primary, St. Peter-in-Thanet C of E Junior, Upton Junior School, King Ethelbert School and St George’s C of E Foundation School.

St Ethelbert’s Catholic Primary School scooped first place for the winning team category. Individual top scorer medals went to Haydon Burrows (Dame Janet Primary Academy) who won gold, Pawel Lisowski (St Ethelbert’s Primary School) took silver and Leon Munt (St Ethelbert’s Primary) scored Bronze.  The highest secondary school scorer went to Daisy Setterfield (King Ethelbert School) who received a trophy.  All pupils received certificates for taking part.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the event with plenty of enthusiasm and competitive spirit. It was a great opportunity for Year 6 and Year 7 children to meet and compete against each other in maths. Everyone had a good time.”
