This one day workshop develops teachers’ capacity to scaffold and engage students in the writing process, to engage all learners, to build stamina, and to maximise their performance as writers. We will include word work and vocabulary learning as a cornerstone of academic writing development for expository and other non-fiction text types. Student writing samples will be shared and discussed.
This is a hands-on workshop with activities, techniques and frameworks to show teachers how practical and simple it is to explicitly teach a number of powerful writing strategies that address the writing demands found in the Australian curriculum.
LEARNING IN THE DIGITAL AGE 24 August* 2016 | Bio Sa Conference Centre, 40-46 West Thebarton Road, Thebarton *Due to unforseen circumstances, this session has been moved from June to August.
With near ubiquitous access to technology in Australia, the term e-learning is starting to become obsolete. Technology pervades all aspects of our lives and in this workshop, we will look at how we put the “e” back inside LeARNING where it belongs! We will spend some time looking at a pedagogical framework which unpacks the key elements of learning design and then look at a range of web based technologies that can support learning, in particular looking at some of the free technology provided by Google Apps for Education.
In the second half of the workshop, we will examine the Australian Digital Technologies Curriculum and look at how we design a primary focussed lesson which addresses some of the curriculum standards around coding and algorithms. This session is for real beginners in coding and you do not need any experience.
By the end of the session, the participants will;
Have a framework they can use for learning design which ensures the learner is at the heart of the experience
Have a strong understanding of how technology can be used to enrich great learning
Have a developing understanding of the Australian Digital Technology Curriculum
Have an experience of block based coding and algorithms within a primary school context (also of interest for non-primary teachers who want to learn more about coding)
We will use Google Apps throughout the day, so please bring along a laptop so all of the material from the workshop can be shared.
